Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Dwayne Roloson stopped 23 shots for his 23rd career shutout, and the Edmonton Oilers posted a 3-0 victory over the Vancouver Canucks at Rexall Place.
Dustin Penner, Ales Hemsky and Robert Nilsson scored in Roloson's first shutout of the season for the Oilers, who have won four of five. Shelden Souray notched his 14th assist of the year in the victory.
Rob Davison had a team-high four shots on goal for the Canucks, who finished 2-4-1 on a season-long seven game road trip. Curtis Sanford allowed three goals on 29 shots in his first-ever regulation loss to the Oilers (5-1-1).
Penner wasted no time putting Edmonton in front, as his backhand beat Sanford just 49 seconds into the contest.
The Oilers made it 2-0 late in the second. Hemsky stole a pass in his own zone and raced down the right side of the ice. Despite having a 3-on-1 rush, Hemsky decided to take it himself and beat Sanford on the glove side with 1:33 left in the period.
Edmonton took a three-goal lead early in the third. A funny bounce put the puck out in the middle of the ice, where only Nilsson was positioned. With a clear breakaway, Nilsson beat Sanford through the legs for the score at 2:20.
Edmonton and Vancouver have played the least and second-least amount of home games, respectively, this season. Saturday's game was just the 10th home tilt for the Oilers, while the Canucks have only had 11 home affairs. Edmonton will host 16 of its next 22 games, while Vancouver will be at home for 17 of its next 22 contests...Roloson's last shutout was on February 22, 2007, in a victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets...The season series is tied, 1-1.
