NHL Game Summary - Carolina at Dallas
(Thursday, March 12th)
Final Score: Dallas 3, Carolina 2
Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Newcomer Brendan Morrison netted his first goal in a Stars uniform and it proved to be the game-winner, as Dallas fended off the Carolina Hurricanes, 3-2, at American Airlines Center.
Mike Ribeiro and Steve Begin also lit the lamp for the Stars, who halted a six-game losing streak on home ice. Marty Turco got the win with a 29-save effort between the pipes.
Rod Brind'Amour had a short-handed goal and Ray Whitney added a power-play tally for the Hurricanes, who had posted points in five straight games (4-0-1). Cam Ward stopped 28 shots in defeat.
Brind'Amour's fourth goal in as many games staked Carolina to a 1-0 lead 7:23 into the contest, then Dallas erupted for three goals in the second period.
Ribeiro found the net 61 seconds into the frame and Begin put Dallas ahead at 6:25 before Morrison, who was claimed off waivers from Anaheim last week, capped the barrage at the 9:51 mark.
A laser off the stick of Whitney beat Turco high on the glove side and drew Carolina within one with 6:15 remaining in the third period, but the Hurricanes' comeback came up short.
Ward made his 17th consecutive start...The Hurricanes haven't posted a victory in Dallas since February 11, 1996, when they were still known as the Hartford Whalers. They have gone winless in eight trips since, losing seven contests while posting a tie in 2001.
