NHL Game Summary - Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay|
(Tuesday, March 3rd)
Final Score: Pittsburgh 3, Tampa Bay 1
Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Chris Kunitz found the net on two occasions,
leading the surging Pittsburgh Penguins to a 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay
Lightning at St. Pete Times Forum.
Matt Cooke also tallied for the Penguins, who are 6-1-0 over their last seven
games. Marc-Andre Fleury turned away 32 of the 33 shots he faced in the win.
"I just wanted to get out there and make sure that we got the two points,"
Kunitz said. "It doesn't matter how many I get, as long as we keep getting
better and building on our game."
Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby missed his fourth straight game with a
nagging groin injury.
Vaclav Prospal had the lone goal for the Lightning, who have dropped seven of
their last nine outings. Karri Ramo stopped 30 shots in defeat.
"(Fleury) was good. He was really good in the third period as well," said
Lightning forward Steven Stamkos. "I thought we really came on and we had some
chances in tight. He stood his ground."
Acquired last week from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenseman Ryan
Whitney, Kunitz opened the scoring 7:38 into the contest, then Tampa Bay tied
it when Prospal capped off a 2-on-1 break by tapping home a feed from Vincent
Lecavalier with 7:37 to play in the first period.
Pittsburgh regained the lead on the power play as Kunitz found the net again
with 3:16 remaining in the opening frame.
Cooke lit the lamp at 12:26 of the middle session, and Fleury shut the door in
the third period, making 11 saves.
Evgeni Malkin picked up an assist on Kunitz's second goal to extend his point
streak to nine games (five goals, eight assists)...Pittsburgh is 16-14-4 as
the guest this season...Tampa Bay fell to 11-13-8 at home.
