NHL Game Summary - Buffalo at Los Angeles

(Thursday, December 6th)

Final Score: Los Angeles 8, Buffalo 2

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Dustin Brown and Tom Preissing each had two goals and an assist as the Los Angeles Kings pounded the Buffalo Sabres, 8-2, at Staples Center.

Anze Kopitar had four assists while Michael Cammalleri added a goal and two assists for the Kings, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Jonathan Quick only needed to make 15 saves in his first start to pick up the first win of his career.

"It's pretty easy when your team scores eight goals," said Quick. "It makes it easier to settle down after the first period when it's 4-0. I was just trying to have fun and enjoy it. It was a good game to start off my career."

Drew Stafford had a goal and an assist while Thomas Vanek also lit the lamp for the Sabres, who have dropped two straight and three of four overall.

Jocelyn Thibault started in net but was pulled after the first period as he was lit up for four goals on 14 shots. Ryan Miller finished the game between the pipes and gave up four goals on 19 shots.

"There wasn't anything good about tonight," said Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff. "We made a lot of mistakes and we didn't have a goalie to save us."

The Kings dominated this game from the start as the team put four pucks into the net in the first period.

Thibault was at fault on the first goal as he turned the puck over behind the net and Kopitar picked it up and centered it to Cammalleri, who one-timed it into the net before Thibault was able to get set just 3:55 in.

A little less than four minutes later a slap shot from Brown at the right point found its way into the net.

Los Angeles then used the power play to score as Ladislav Nagy sent a pass from the right circle to the top of the left circle where Preissing's one- timer beat Thibault with 1:40 left in the first.

With just 32.7 seconds left in the frame, a wrist shot from Jaroslav Modry at the right point got past Thibault.

Miller took over for Thibault to start the second period, but it made little difference as Los Angeles scored three more times.

Michal Handzus scored a short-handed goal at the 1:56 mark of the period and Derek Armstrong followed that with a power-play goal at 5:45.

Brown got his second goal of the game as his one-timer from the left side beat Miller for a power-play goal and a 7-0 lead with 8:53 left in the second.

Buffalo finally stanched the bleeding as Stafford scored his fifth goal of the season with 6:17 left in the second.

The Sabres made it a 7-2 game 1:20 into the third on Vanek's eighth goal of the season.

However, the Kings answered with a power-play goal from Preissing for an 8-2 lead with 9:40 to play to cap the scoring.
