NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at Phoenix

(Saturday, March 22nd)

Final Score: Anaheim 2, Phoenix 1

Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Teemu Selanne scored twice as the Anaheim Ducks downed the Phoenix Coyotes, 2-1.

The second goal was the 550th of Selanne's career, moving him past Ron Francis for 23rd place on the all-time list. Also, he is fifth in the goal scoring department among active players.

Jonas Hiller stopped 30 shots for the Ducks, who have won four of their last five games. Anaheim now has 94 points -- good for fourth in the Western Conference -- and trails San Jose by five points for first place in the Pacific Division.

Ed Jovanovski scored the lone goal while Ilya Bryzgalov made 13 saves for the Coyotes, who have dropped five straight and face a tough battle to get into the playoffs. The Coyotes trail Colorado by six points for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with six games to play.

With the score tied at 1-1, Anaheim took the lead with a power-play marker. Doug Weight sent a one-touch pass from the slot to the left circle where Selanne one-timed it between the pads of Bryzgalov with 9:20 to play.

Phoenix got Bryzgalov out of the net in the final minute for the extra attacker, but were unable to net the equalizer.

Anaheim got the only goal of the first period at the 6:11 mark. Todd Bertuzzi picked off a weak pass near the top of his own zone and pushed the puck ahead to Selanne, who skated in unopposed and lifted a backhander into the left corner of the net.

Hiller stopped 14 shots in the first period to keep the Coyotes off the scoreboard.

The second period was a scoreless affair with Hiller stopping seven shots and Bryzgalov needing to make just three saves.

Phoenix tied the game with a power-play goal just 3:26 into the third. Phoenix outworked Anaheim behind the net and Radim Vrbata got the puck. From behind the left side he sent it to the left circle where Jovanovski blasted a one- timer into the right corner of the net.
