NHL Game Summary - Boston at Florida

(Thursday, November 29th)

Final Score: Boston 4, Florida 3

Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Zdeno Chara scored twice, and the Boston Bruins survived two late Panthers' goals to hold on for a 4-3 win over Florida.

Glen Metropolit and Phil Kessel also scored for the Bruins, who have won four of five. Marc Savard notched two assists, and Tim Thomas stopped 32 shots for Boston.

David Booth and Olli Jokinen scored in the final 2:19 for the Panthers, who saw their four-game win streak come to an end. Steve Montador also scored for Florida, which had won two straight on the shootout, but couldn't force extra time in this one.

Craig Anderson had 34 saves for the Panthers.

Trailing 4-1 late in the third period, the Panthers nearly completed a miracle comeback in the last three minutes. Booth got things started when he flung a no-look shot from the bottom of the left circle on net, and it slipped past Thomas to pull the Panthers within 4-2 at the 17:41 mark.

The Panthers pulled Anderson late for the extra attacker, and took advantage with 29.8 seconds left. Jay Bouwmeester flung a shot on net from the top of the zone that Nathan Horton deflected. The puck found its way to Jokinen, who slipped it past a sprawling Thomas to make it a one-goal game with half a minute remaining.

The Panthers couldn't get off another shot, though, and the Bruins held on for the win.

Chara gave the Bruins the early lead with a goal at 10:11 of the first period. Metropolit then made it 2-0 just 39 seconds into the second period.

Montador's power-play tally cut the Boston lead in half a little more than two minutes later, but Chara added a power-play score with 3:36 left in the second period that gave the Bruins a 3-1 lead.

Kessel's score at 4:57 of the third put Boston ahead 4-1.
