Final Score: Boston 2, NY Islanders 1

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Glen Metropolit scored the deciding goal as the Boston Bruins edged the New York Islanders, 2-1, at TD Banknorth Garden.

Glen Murray also tallied for the Bruins, who have won four of five. Tim Thomas made 25 saves in the win.

Mike Sillinger scored the lone goal for the Islanders, who have dropped two in a row and four of six. Rick DiPietro stopped 23 shots for New York, which went 0-for-3 on the power play

"Our power play wasn't clicking today or the last couple of games so we have to address that," said Islanders coach Ted Nolan. "We just have to go back to the drawing board. It's not about execution, it's more about working to fight to win those battles for loose pucks and to move. Right now, we're stationary and it looks like we have no confidence in our power play."

With 7:19 remaining in the third period, Metropolit beat DiPietro with a slap shot from the left circle to put the Bruins ahead 2-0.

The Islanders cut their deficit in half with 5:39 to go in the contest when Sillinger deflected a shot form Bruno Gervais past Thomas.

New York had a power play during the final two minutes and pulled DiPietro with approximately 45 seconds to go, but could not squeeze a goal by Thomas in the waning moments.

"Sometimes that's what you have to do to finish up games," said Thomas. "The guys did a great job of stepping up and finishing off, making up for a penalty, whether or not it should have been called."

Murray put Boston on the board with 2:37 left in the second period when he took a pass from Marco Sturm behind the net and wristed the disc from the slot through the five-hole of DiPietro.

New York failed to muster a single shot with a two-man advantage for 1:40 early in the third period...Boston next goes on a six-game road trip and plays nine of its next 10 away from home...New York is home for the for its next three games...The Bruins finished 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Islanders finished 0-for-3 with the man-advantage...Boston left winger Milan Lucic left the game in the first period with a head injury.
