NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Colorado

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Andrew Brunette scored the game winning goal, while Peter Forsberg picked up two assists for his first points since returning to the NHL, to help the Colorado Avalanche defeat the Dallas Stars, 3-1, in the front end of a home-and-home set at the Pepsi Center.

Scott Hannan and Paul Stastny each lit the lamp for the Avalanche, who have won six games in a row. Jose Theodore picked up the win after stopping 25- of-26 shots.

Colorado now has 80 points and is tied with Calgary and Minnesota for the top spot in the Northwest Division.

Antti Miettinen scored the only goal for the Stars, who have lost three games in a row. Marty Turco received the loss after allowing two goals on 27 shots for Dallas, which has lost for only the fifth time since the All Star break.

Dallas has 87 points and missed an opportunity to extend its lead over San Jose, which has 86 points, for first place in the Pacific Division.

Hannan tied the game for Colorado at 1-1 after he picked up a loose puck in front of the net and backhanded it past Turco at the 7:30 mark of the third period.

Less then three minutes later, Colorado took a 2-1 lead while on the power play. Forsberg took a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle and Brunette deflected the puck past Turco for the goal.

Stastny added an empty-net goal just as time was expiring to seal the game for Colorado.

Dallas opened the scoring 8:56 into the first period while on the power play. Stephane Robidas took a shot that was saved, but Miettinen picked up the rebound and ripped a wrist shot over the shoulder of Theodore for the goal.

Only 12 shots were taken in the second period. Turco turned away all six shots that he faced and Theodore stopped the six shots that he saw.

Game Notes

Forsberg played in his 700th career game in the NHL...Brunette played in his 440th consecutive game, which is the longest current streak in the NHL...Colorado and Dallas will play again Sunday, in Dallas to complete the home-and-home set...It was Forsberg's third game back with Colorado since signing with the team on February 25.
