NHL Game Summary - Florida at Buffalo

(Friday, November 2nd)

Final Score: Florida 4, Buffalo 2

Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Richard Zednik scored twice as the Florida Panthers downed the Buffalo Sabres, 4-2, at HSBC Arena.

Radek Dvorak and Olli Jokinen each scored a goal while Tomas Vokoun stopped 26 shots for the Panthers, who have won their last two games.

Jochen Hecht and Thomas Vanek each scored a goal while Jocelyn Thibault gave up all four goals on 24 shots for the Sabres, who have dropped two straight and five of seven.

Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff made his 750th appearance as a head coach, all with the Sabres, in the game. Ruff is the 31st coach in NHL history to reach the 750-game milestone.

Dvorak got the only goal of the first period as his wrister through a screen from the slot beat Thibault for a 1-0 Florida lead at the 5:32 mark.

Buffalo tied the game 9:08 into the second period. Henrik Tallinder wristed a shot from the high slot that Vokoun saved, but the rebound went to the right side and Hecht backhanded it in.

However, the Panthers answered with three straight goals to take a 4-1 lead heading into the third period.

On a broken play, Jozef Stumpel grabbed the puck and passed it from the left circle to the right where Zednik redirected it past Thibault with 6:25 left.

Zednik again struck as he skated down the right wing and snapped a shot on net that a defender blocked, but the puck went right back to Zednik and he buried the second attempt with 3:10 left.

Less than two minutes later, Florida completed the outburst as Ville Peltonen sent a pass from behind the net to the left side where Nathan Horton immediately sent it across the goalmouth to Jokinen, who swept the puck into the open net.

The Sabres made it a two-goal game on a power-play tally with 3:23 left in the contest as Derek Roy sent a pass from the top of the right circle to the slot where Vanek redirected it into the top left corner.

Buffalo got Thibault out of the net with a little under two minutes to play, but was unable to get any closer.
