NHL Game Summary - Colorado at St. Louis

(Friday, October 12th)

Final Score: St. Louis 4, Colorado 1

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Jay McClement had the go-ahead tally in the third period and Dan Hinote scored a pair of goals as the St. Louis Blues beat the Colorado Avalanche, 4-1, at Scottrade Center.

Brad Boyes also lit the lamp and Manny Legace finished with 24 saves for St. Louis, which dropped its season opener to Phoenix on October 4, but has rebounded with three consecutive wins.

Paul Stastny had the lone goal for Colorado, while Jose Theodore made his 2007 debut after undergoing offseason knee surgery, stopping 19-of-23 shots.

Stastny, who was named the NHL's first Star of the Week this past Monday, has five goals and four assists in Colorado's first four games. He had a hat trick against Dallas in the season opener, then recorded a career-best five points (one goal, four assists) on October 7 against San Jose.

St. Louis took the lead just 1:14 into the game, as Keith Tkachuk bounced the puck off the left boards and down the ice, where it was picked up by Paul Kariya. Theodore then blocked Kariya's shot, before Boyes knocked the rebound over the netminder's left pad.

The Avs quickly tied it less than three minutes later when Stastny's slow wrister banked off the skate of Kariya and slipped past Legace's skate.

The Blues had just two shots on goal in the second period, despite having three power-play opportunities, but exploded for three goals in the final stanza.

McClement lit the lamp with the go-ahead goal just 4:57 into the third, as David Backes came from behind the net and threw a shot at Theodore. Lee Stempniak, camped in front of the crease, then appeared to knock home his own rebound for the 2-1 lead, before the goal was finally credited to McClement on a deflection.

Hinote followed that up with a tally a little more than a minute later, giving the Blues a two-goal cushion, as Jamal Mayers shoveled the puck towards the front of the net before Hinote knocked the loose disc over the goal line.

He also scored the game's final goal on a tip-in, with the assists going to Ryan Johnson and Dave Perron with 4:01 left.
