Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Ray Emery stopped 27 shots for his fifth shutout

Dany Heatley and Jason Spezza tallied for the Senators, who have won eight of
their last nine games, including two straight against Carolina.
"We're all playing with confidence," said Emery. "At the start of the year
that's not the style of hockey we were playing and that's part of the reason
for our slow start. We've got so much talent on this team that's it's hard not
to put two good games together."
Cam Ward made 24 saves in the loss for the Hurricanes, who have dropped two
straight and three of five, and were also shutout for the eighth time this
Ottawa took a 1-0 lead at 3:54 of the first, as Spezza's initial sharp-angle

defenseman Wade Redden hit Spezza in stride right out of the penalty box, and
the center had half the ice to himself before rifling the puck past Ward from
Carolina outshot the hosts 14-6 in the final 20 minutes, but Emery was equal
to the task by turning aside each chance to preserve the win.
"We have to dig in now and get some wins going," said Canes forward Scott
Walker. "We just have to work harder and get the shots through. Obviously, I
think we've got what it takes. We just have to pick it up and get it going."
