NHL Game Summary - Edmonton at Columbus

(Thursday, February 22nd)

Final Score: Edmonton 4, Columbus 0

Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Shawn Horcoff tallied twice and recorded an assist as Edmonton blanked Columbus, 4-0, at Nationwide Arena.

Ryan Smyth added a goal with two helpers for the Oilers, who snapped a four- game losing streak. Ladislav Smid rounded out the scoring with his first career goal.

"We did a lot of things well tonight," Edmonton head coach Craig MacTavish said. "The skill level showed in the way we moved the puck, we played well defensively and answered the bell physically and we got good goaltending."

Netminder Dwayne Roloson notched his 22nd-career shutout by stopping all 28 shots faced for his 24th win of the season.

Fredrik Norrena made 24 saves for the Blue Jackets, who have dropped three in a row and eight of their last 10.

"It's disappointing to play as well as we've played 5-on-5 and to come out with a performance like that," Columbus head coach Ken Hitchcock said. "Today we had a lot of guys whose performance was well below the bar."

Edmonton took a 1-0 lead just 2:22 into the contest when Horcoff slapped it home from 23 feet out. Smyth assisted the goal with a drop pass to Horcoff, who fired the puck through Norrena's five-hole.

Then, at the 8:23 mark, Smyth increased the Oilers' advantage to two with a power-play tally. Petr Sykora notched an assist.

Smid's goal gave Edmonton a 3-0 lead 5:37 into the second period. Raffi Torres set up the score by corralling the puck at the left circle and sending a pass to Smid, who one-timed the disc over Norrena's stick side.

Horcoff's second goal of the night -- a 17-foot slap shot -- made it a 4-0 affair 2:45 into the third.
