NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at Colorado|
(Tuesday, February 13th)
Final Score: Colorado 2, Anaheim 0
Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Peter Budaj stopped 39 shots for his second
shutout of the season as the Colorado Avalanche topped the Anaheim Ducks,
2-0, at Pepsi Center.
Milan Hejduk had a goal and an assist, while Paul Stastny also lit the lamp
for the Avalanche, who won for just the second time in six games.
Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 27 saves for the Ducks, who have lost four of
their last five games, and were blanked for the third time in their last five
"When your team gets in these type of situations, simplification is
the key," said Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle. "We gotta get traffic in front
of the net and create scoring situations. I was really disappointed in our
reactions in the third."
The struggling Hejduk picked up his 18th goal of the season with 2:18 to
play in the first. With the Avs on the power play, Hejduk gathered a pass from
Andrew Brunette, took one stride into the left circle, and blasted a shot
through Giguere's pads.
Stastny provided insurance for a 2-0 Colorado lead with 1:12 remaining in the
second, as he followed up Hejduk's miss from the top of the left circle with
an easy tap-in as the puck slipped through Giguere.
Budaj was perfect in the third as the Ducks sent 14 shots his way, turning
aside each chance with ease as the visitors failed to create any traffic in
front of the Avs netminder.
"It's a big win," Budaj said. "We played well right from the beginning
tonight. This feels good to win and we can get some momentum with this. Our
penalty kill was awesome although they had a ton of shots to deal with. We
can't get too high, we can't forget what has happened before. We got to carry
this one into our next game in Calgary."
