NHL Game Summary - Tampa Bay at NY Rangers

(Friday, February 9th)

Final Score: NY Rangers 5, Tampa Bay 0

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Henrik Lundqvist made 29 saves to record his second shutout of the season, as the New York Rangers blanked the Tampa Bay Lightning, 5-0, at Madison Square Garden.

Jaromir Jagr scored a goal and added an assist for New York, which ended a four-game slide. Colton Orr, Marcel Hossa and Ryan Hollweg also tallied goals in the victory. Sean Avery, who was acquired in a trade from the Los Angeles Kings earlier this week, also scored, picking up his first goal as a member of the Rangers.

"It's like when the big fat guy scores in football," Jagr said about New York's role players scoring. "Everybody loves to see it. I love it, it is great to watch."

Johan Holmqvist started between the pipes for Tampa Bay and allowed four goals on 16 shots before being pulled in the second stanza in favor of Marc Denis, who finished the night with seven saves.

With the loss, the Lightning had their four-game win streak end.

"I am glad we played hard and stuck up for each other," said Tampa Bay head coach John Tortorella. "That is a huge part of the game that we are missing."

The Rangers struck first to take a 1-0 lead after Orr tallied his first-career goal at 4:28 of the first. Fedor Tyutin controlled the puck along the left boards and centered the disc to Orr, who spun around and unleashed a backhander that slipped through the pads of Holmqvist.

Hossa gave New York a 2-0 advantage after scoring his fourth goal of the season with 8:28 to play in the first. From the high slot, Hossa ripped a wrist shot that sailed over the left shoulder of Holmqvist.

The Rangers lead grew to 3-0 after Hollweg tallied at 8:28 of the second. On an odd man rush, Jagr raced into the Tampa Bay zone and from the low slot, slid the puck across to Hollweg, who one-timed the feed past a sliding Holmqvist.

Avery extended New York's lead to 4-0 at 14:25 of the middle session after scoring his first goal in a Rangers' uniform. Avery's tally ended Holmqvist's night as he was replaced by Marc Denis.

Jagr's tally 3:32 into the final frame capped the scoring.
