Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Jarome Iginla had a goal and two assists to
lead the Calgary Flames over the Edmonton Oilers, 4-2, at the Pengrowth
Miikka Kiprusoff made 22 saves for the Flames, who never trailed on their way
to their second straight win. Calgary moved into a first-place tie with the
Minnesota Wild in the Northwest Division with 42 points.
Ryan Smyth scored both of the goals for the Oilers, who have dropped four in a
row and 10 of their last 12 contests.
The Flames jumped ahead early, led by the play of Iginla, who scored the first
goal of the game just 5:48 in. He then assisted on the next two goals, setting
up Daymond Langkow with 10:55 left until the first intermission and
then assisting on Dion Phaneuf's power-play goal 49 seconds into the second.
Edmonton finally got on the scoreboard one minute, 22 seconds later when Smyth
tallied his 18th goal of the season. Daniel Tjarnqvist and Jarret Stoll
recorded assists on the power-play goal
Chuck Kobasew, however, gave Calgary its three-goal lead back heading into the
third period when he scored 1:42 after Smyth.
Smyth added his second goal of the game midway through the third period, but
that was as close as the Oilers got. The tally came on the power play.
Stoll ended with a pair of assists for Edmonton.
Dwayne Roloson ended with 20 saves for the Oilers.
Calgary improved to 14-4 at home this season...Edmonton fell to 6-11-1 on the
road...These two teams have split four meetings so far this season...Calgary
