NHL Game Summary - Atlanta at Tampa Bay

(Friday, November 24th)

Final Score: Tampa Bay 3, Atlanta 2 (OT)

Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Martin St. Louis scored the game-winner with 2:35 left in overtime to lead the Tampa Bay lightning to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers at St. Pete Times Forum.

St. Louis also had an assist and Dan Boyle added two goals for the Lightning, who have won their last two games.

"I think we've proven to ourselves that we can come back, especially against one of the top teams in the league," said Boyle. "On the other hand, we have to use it as a lesson not to put us in that situation too many times."

Johan Holmqvist made 23 saves for Tampa Bay, which is 3-1 against Atlanta this season.

Jason Krog and Steve Rucchin had a goal each, and Kari Lehtonen stopped 30 shots for the Thrashers, who have dropped five of their last six games.

It appeared as though Atlanta was going to leave the building with the victory, but Boyle threw a shot on net from the high slot that deflected off of Atlanta's Andy Sutton in front of the net and past Lehtonen with 20.5 seconds to play.

"I saw it when it went past me," said Lehtonen about the goal. "It was a lucky bounce. I guess the guy upstairs just wanted it to go in. Everybody saw on the replay that the puck was going into the corner and then it hit (Andy) Sutton."

In the extra session, Vinny Prospal fought off a checker along the deep boards and St. Louis picked the disc up and from the inside low left circle, snapping a wrister over the right shoulder of Lehtonen for the game-winner.

The Thrashers took a 1-0 lead early in the first period when Glen Metropolit brought the puck into the Tampa end down the left wing and flicked a pass out front where Krog tapped it between the pads of Holmqvist just 2:37 in.

Atlanta grabbed a 2-0 lead quickly in the second period as Shane Hnidy snapped a pass from the right circle to the inside left circle where Rucchin flicked a shot by Holmqvist's glove with 2:36 played.

The Lightning finally got on the board in the second when Boyle skated the puck from the left side boards to the low left circle and snapped a shot from a bad angle that went over the right shoulder of Lehtonen at the 8:43 mark.
