NHL Game Summary - Vancouver at Minnesota

(Tuesday, December 19th)

Final Score: Minnesota 5, Vancouver 2

St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Branko Radivojevic's pair of goals helped the Minnesota Wild topple the Vancouver Canucks, 5-2 at Xcel Energy Center.

Brian Rolston picked up a goal and one assist, Todd White notched a pair of helpers while Pavol Demitra and Mark Parrish also scored for Minnesota, which snapped a three-game losing streak. Manny Fernandez made 20 saves in the victory.

Trevor Linden and Kevin Bieksa tallied for Vancouver, which saw its three-game winning streak halted. Roberto Luongo had a shaky night in net, stopping 22 shots.

Demitra gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead just 1:47 into the game on a blistering slapper from a stride over the blue line which Luongo flat-out missed with his glove, and Rolston doubled the lead to 2-0 just 2:01 into the second when he swept in the rebound of Pierre-Marc Bouchard's shot that hit Luongo up high and bounced into the slot.

Linden and Radivojevic traded goals during a relatively sedate middle period, and the Wild led 3-1 after two.

Parrish added a goal at 6:52 of the third, when White's left circle drive hit him in the crease, changed direction, and dropped into the net. However, Bieksa countered with 4:43 to go, making it 4-2 when his right point drive on the power play miraculously dipped past Fernandez while Henrik Sedin provided a screen.

In a bold move, Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault pulled Luongo with two and a half minutes to play, but Radivojevic hit the clincher into an empty net with 1:56 remaining.
