St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Branko Radivojevic's pair of goals helped the
Minnesota Wild topple the Vancouver Canucks, 5-2 at Xcel Energy Center.
Brian Rolston picked up a goal and one assist, Todd White notched a pair of
helpers while Pavol Demitra and Mark Parrish also scored for Minnesota, which
snapped a three-game losing streak. Manny Fernandez made 20 saves in the
Trevor Linden and Kevin Bieksa tallied for Vancouver, which saw its three-game
winning streak halted. Roberto Luongo had a shaky night in net, stopping 22
Demitra gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead just 1:47 into the game on a blistering
slapper from a stride over the blue line which Luongo flat-out missed with his
glove, and Rolston doubled the lead to 2-0 just 2:01 into the second when he
swept in the rebound of Pierre-Marc Bouchard's shot that hit Luongo up high
and bounced into the slot.
Linden and Radivojevic traded goals during a relatively sedate middle period,
and the Wild led 3-1 after two.
Parrish added a goal at 6:52 of the third, when White's left circle drive hit
him in the crease, changed direction, and dropped into the net. However,
Bieksa countered with 4:43 to go, making it 4-2 when his right point drive on
the power play miraculously dipped past Fernandez while Henrik Sedin provided
In a bold move, Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault pulled Luongo with two and
a half minutes to play, but Radivojevic hit the clincher into an empty net
with 1:56 remaining.
The all-time series is tied 14-14-5...Fernandez improves to 8-6-1 lifetime
against the Canucks...Luongo is now 2-6-1 against the Wild...Vancouver went 1-
of-4, while Minnesota came up empty in four power play chances.
