(Saturday, October 21st)

Final Score: NY Islanders 4, Carolina 3 (OT)

Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Tom Poti's power play goal, 23 seconds into overtime, lifted the New York Islanders to a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the Carolina Hurricanes at Nassau Coliseum.

Trailing 3-2 with 3:10 left in regulation, the Islanders tied the game on a power play when Mike Sillinger's wrist shot from the left circle found the net on John Grahame's glove side.

Poti then netted the game-winner with assists from Alexei Yashin and Miroslav Satan. It was a shot from inside the blue line with the puck finding its way through a maze of players and into the net.

Jason Blake and Mike York rounded out the scoring for the Islanders, who have won three of their last five contests.

Rick DiPietro, who had been sidelined by a groin injury the previous four games, made 37 saves, including 14 in the third period. It was his first win of the season

Grahame stopped 21 shots.

Justin Williams tallied twice and Rod Brind'Amour also scored and notched two assists for the Hurricanes, who have lost two straight. Grahame stopped 21 shots in the loss.

After a scoreless first period, the Islanders took the lead on Blake's power- play goal. Sillinger fed the puck to Blake near the left circle, whose wrister sailed past the glove of Grahame at the 7:53 mark.

Less than two minutes into the third, York's snap shot deflected off the pads of a sprawled-out Grahame to give New York a two-goal advantage.

The Hurricanes then scored three straight goals to take the lead. Williams' short-handed wrap-around goal on the left side of the net cut Carolina's deficit to 2-1 at the 6:38 mark in the third. Brind'Amour and Tim Gleason assisted.

Just under two minutes later, Williams tied the game on the power play when his slap shot sailed past the left shoulder of DiPietro.

Brind'Amour gave his team a one-goal lead when he tipped the disc in the right side of the net after taking a pass from Ryan Bayda 14:34 into the third.
