NHL Game Summary - Montreal at Tampa Bay

(Wednesday, November 15th)

Final Score: Montreal 3, Tampa Bay 1

Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Sheldon Souray scored two power-play goals to lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning at St. Pete Times Forum.

Guillaume Latendresse scored the other goal and Cristobal Huet stopped 29 shots for the Canadiens, who have won three of their last four games.

"We did a good job in the offensive zone and the defensive zone and we didn't have too many turnovers," said Huet.

Vinny Prospal scored the lone goal and Marc Denis stopped 25 shots for the Lightning, who had won four of five coming into the contest.

"We gave them the game on the special teams," said Prospal. "We gave them the penalties and they scored the power-play goals."

The Canadiens took a 1-0 lead in the first period when a slap shot by Souray at the right point found its way through a screen and past Denis just 2:35 into the contest for a power-play tally.

Huet was peppered with 15 shots in the first period, but he turned all of those aside.

The Lightning broke onto the scoreboard with an even-strength marker in the second. Cory Sarich's shot from the right point was tipped in front by Prospal through the five-hole of Huet 7:22 in.

Montreal, though, grabbed a 2-1 lead later in the second on a 5-on-3 power- play goal. Just eight seconds after Luke Richardson got called for tripping, with Filip Kuba already in the sin bin, Souray let loose a blast from the right point the beat Denis with 4:48 left in the second.

The Lightning had a golden opportunity to tie the game in the third when Brad Richards found himself with the puck all alone down low on a shorthanded chance. Huet, though, poked the puck away before he was able to get a shot off.

The Habs took the puck up ice on the transition and from the left circle Latendresse snapped a wrister that beat Denis over the glove for a 3-1 lead with 10:36 to play.
