NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Phoenix

(Saturday, December 9th)

Final Score: Dallas 4, Phoenix 3 (OT)

Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Jere Lehtinen's dazzling goal with 4.6 seconds left in overtime lifted the Dallas Stars past the Phoenix Coyotes, 4-3.

As time ran out in the extra period, Darryl Sydor fired a shot from the point that Mikael Tellqvist managed to get a pad on. However, Lehtinen swatted the rebound on net and the puck hit off of Tellqvist's left shoulder, into the air and then off the back of the netminder's head and into the net for the game- winner.

"I made a pad save and (the puck) was right there, it hit my chest and went straight up," said Tellqvist. "I never felt it; it was just a bad break."

Lehtinen finished with a three-point night, tallying two goals and an assist for the Stars, who have won four of their last five.

Jussi Jokinen and Niklas Hagman also scored for Dallas, while Marty Turco ended with 28 saves.

"I thought our team played very hard right from the get-go," said Stars head coach Dave Tippett. "We deserved to win."

Ed Jovanovski, Owen Noland and Michael Zigomanis each scored for the Coyotes, who have dropped two of three. Tellqvist finished with 40 saves.

Dallas drew first blood 8:48 into the opening period. From the left point, Philippe Boucher sent a pass to Jokinen in right face circle. Jokinen one- timed a pass to Lehtinen, who wristed the puck top shelf for the power play goal.

Jokinen's one-timer gave the Stars a 2-0 lead with 6:52 left in the first before the Coyotes answered just 25 seconds later. With Jeremy Roenick screening Turco, Jovanovski's slap shot from the left point found the back of the net.

The Stars took a 3-1 lead just 42 seconds into the second period. Hagman, from behind the net, squeezed past Jovanovksi, skated in front and beat Tellqvist through the five-hole for the goal.

Nolan's wrister from the right circle just over five minutes later made it 3-2 and Phoenix managed to net the equalizer in the third period.

At the 7:46 mark of the third period, Ladislav Nagy's initial shot deflected in front of the net and Zigomanis was there to fire the puck off the crossbar and in.
