Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Dainius Zubrus scored two goals and added an
assist to lead the Washington Capitals to a 4-1 victory over the Florida
Panthers at BankAtlantic Center.
Alexander Ovechkin had a goal and an assist and Matt Pettinger scored the

Olaf Kolzig stopped 44-of-45 shots for Washington, which has defeated Florida
the last three games after losing eight consecutive games to the Panthers.
Nathan Horton scored the lone goal and Alexander Auld made 23 saves for the
Panthers, who have dropped their last four games.
"Lots of quality scoring chances over there, but the puck just didn't go in
tonight," said Panthers winger Olli Jokinen. "It wasn't like we weren't
shooting or trying. Sometimes it doesn't go your way."
The Caps grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first period. Mike Green hit Pettinger with
an outlet pass and Pettinger squeezed between two defenders, threw a shot on
which Auld made a save, but the rebound went off the left skate of
Pettinger and into the net with 1:57 left in the first. The goal was reviewed
to see if Pettinger had kicked it in, but the goal stood.
Kolzig stopped all 14 shots he faced in the first period.
Florida tied the game in the second period thanks to a power-play goal by
Horton just 5:05 into the second period.
Washington, though, took a 2-1 lead into the third thanks to a goal by
Ovechkin. Zubrus had the puck at the left side and got it to Ovechkin in the
slot. Ovechkin threw a shot on net that Auld made a save on, but he got his
own rebound and banged it in the net 1:40 after the Florida goal.
"I didn't have lots of time or lots of room so I was a little bit lucky," said
Ovechkin. "I had a lot of (chances) this game. It was a reflex (shot). I
didn't have time. Sometimes I try thinking of a move on the goalie but he
moves and he saves it."
The Capitals solidified their lead late in the third period when Ovechkin
brought the puck into the Panthers zone and from the high slot hit Zubrus with
a pass at the low right side, where Zubrus one-timed it over the left shoulder
of Auld for a 3-1 lead with 5:45 to play.
