Ed Belfour made 32 saves for Florida in the loss.

Chris Gratton was whistled for hooking early in the first period and the Lightning were able to capitalize when Lecavalier's shot from the point beat a screened Belfour just 4:20 into the contest.

Florida managed to even the score on Weiss' power-play goal with 3:19 left in the first. Mike Van Ryn, stationed at the point, sent a pass down low to Weiss that the forward tipped past Denis.

The Lightning then got two goals in a 22 second span in the third period to take a comfortable three-goal lead. With 10:58 left in the third, Fedotenko skated the puck into the Florida zone along the left boards and fired a wrister that beat Belfour top shelf.

Then, with 10:36 left in regulation, Afanasenkov scored on a wrap-around from behind the net to make it 4-1.
