NHL Game Summary - Florida at Tampa Bay

(Tuesday, January 24th)

Final Score: Florida 3, Tampa Bay 2 (OT)

St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - Olli Jokinen scored two goals, including the game-winner 3:15 into overtime, as the Florida Panthers defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 at the St. Pete Times Forum.

Roberto Luongo made 48 saves and Chris Gratton tallied his sixth goal of the year for Florida, which snapped a three-game losing streak.

"We stuck it out, especially when we led twice at the end of the game," Luongo said. "We battled back and scored a good goal in OT."

"Without him (Luongo), we wouldn't have any points tonight," Jokinen said.

Brad Richards and Ryan Craig scored a goal apiece and Sean Burke stopped 23 of the 26 shots he faced for Tampa Bay, which had its three-game wining streak halted.

"I couldn't be happier as far as how hard they played and then they turned it up in the overtime, that's what I liked," Tampa bay head coach John Tortorella said. "They tried to win so we'll take that point and go from there."

With 1:45 left in overtime, Jokinen scored the game-winner after he one-timed a rebound from the left circle that beat Burke stick-side. Martin Gelinas blasted a shot from the right circle that was saved by Burke, but the rebound kicked to Jokinen in the left circle, where he had a gaping net at which to shoot.

Florida grabbed a 1-0 lead midway through the second period after Gratton rifled a wrist shot from the right circle that went over Burke's left shoulder.

Tampa Bay tied the game with 3:51 left to play in regulation. Richards threw the puck in front from behind the Panthers' net, and it caromed off of Gratton's skate and through Luongo's five-hole to make it 1-1.

Just 39 seconds later, the Panthers regained the lead after Jokinen took a cross-ice feed and unleashed a one-timer that beat Burke top-shelf for a 2-1 advantage.

The Lightning netted the equalizer with 48.3 ticks left on the clock. Craig gathered a pass in the slot and beat Luongo stick-side high to force overtime.
