Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Sean Burke made 26 saves and Fredrik Modin
notched his 15th goal of the season to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning over the
Phoenix Coyotes, 3-1, at Glendale Arena.
Vincent Lecavalier and Ruslan Fedotenko also tallied goals for the Lightning,
who have won six of their last seven contests.
Geoff Sanderson scored Phoenix's lone goal and Curtis Joseph stopped 25 shots
for the Coyotes, who have lost two straight after a three-game winning streak.
Tampa Bay got on the scoreboard 6:03 into the first period after Modin beat
Joseph with a wrist shot from the slot. Brad Richards notched his 24th assist
of the season to help give Tampa a 1-0 lead.
The Lightning upped their lead to 2-0 nearly nine minutes into the second
period after Lecavalier beat Joseph glove side with a wrist shot from the
right circle for a shorthanded tally.
Tampa Bay made it 3-0 just 17 seconds into the third period while on the power
play after Fedotenko beat Joseph glove side with a shot from the slot.
Phoenix got on the scoreboard 3:44 into the third period after Sanderson
whacked a rebound over Burke's glove from on the doorstep to make it a 3-1
contest, but that was as close as the Coyotes would get.
The Lightning notched their fifth straight win against Phoenix and Tampa Bay
has won six of nine in the series against the Coyotes. The Lightning have also
taken the last three matchups at Phoenix...Tampa defenseman Dan Boyle has
eight assists during his seven-game point streak...The Coyotes fell to
9-6-1 at Glendale Arena this year...Mike Johnson had his point-scoring streak
halted at six games...Tampa Bay is 11-2-1 in last 14 games... It was the
first game Burke has played in since giving up six goals on 17 shots against
New Jersey on November 25.
