Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Bryan Berard scored with 13.6 seconds left in
overtime to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets over the New Jersey Devils, 3-2, at
Nikolai Zherdev had two goals and Berard had an assist to go with his game-
winner for the Blue Jackets, who have won two of their last three games.
Marc Denis made 28 saves in the victory.
Paul Martin and Brian Gionta scored for the Devils, who have lost their last
four games. Martin Brodeur made 36 saves in the losing effort.
Columbus had tied the game up early in the third period on Zherdev's second

The Devils scored the only goal of the first period on Martin's first of the

The Blue Jackets tied the game up with 8:57 left in the second period. The
Devils tried to clear the puck out of their zone, but David Vyborny forced the
turnover and Zherdev got the disc. He skated in and fired a wrist shot from
the left circle that beat Brodeur on the stick side.
However, New Jersey took the lead thanks to a Columbus turnover. Gionta forced
a giveaway deep in the Columbus zone and skated the puck from the right boards
to the slot. He then shot a backhander that went through Denis' legs with 3:06
left in the second period.
Columbus tied the game up with a power-play goal in the third period. Jan
Hrdina flicked a wrist shot from high in the slot. Brodeur made the save, but
Zherdev picked up the rebound and backhanded it in just 4:35 in.
"It's good to catch a few breaks and a good bounce," said Zherdev. "I think on
the power play we are moving the puck a little faster, and that gave me a
chance to put one in after a lucky bounce."
New Jersey hosts Edmonton on Tuesday...The Blue Jackets host the Flyers on
Tuesday...New Jersey was 0-for-7 on the power play...The Blue Jackets scored
on one of their five man-advantages.
