Final Score: Buffalo 3, Anaheim 2 (OT)

Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Ales Kotalik netted the equalizer late in the third period and Maxim Afinogenov scored in overtime to lift the Buffalo Sabres past the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, 3-2, at HSBC Arena.

Thomas Vanek scored his fifth goal of the season and Martin Biron made 28 saves for the Sabres, who have won two straight and seven of their last eight contests.

Chris Kunitz and Joffrey Lupul both notched goals and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 28 of 31 shots for Anaheim, which has lost two straight.

In overtime, Todd Marchant was called for hooking, giving the Sabres a four- on-three power play. With 2:49 to play in the extra frame, Afinogenov blasted a slap shot from the right circle that went through Giguere's five-hole for the game-winning goal.

Anaheim got on the scoreboard 7:06 into the first period on a two-on-one rush after Kunitz attempted a cross-ice pass from the right circle that deflected off of Sabres' defenseman Henrik Tallinder in front and past Biron for a 1-0 lead.

Buffalo tied the game 8:06 into the third period after Vanek was hauled down by Ruslan Salei on a breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot. He faked a slap shot in the slot before shifting to his backhand, beating Giguere stick side, top shelf.

The Mighty Ducks regained the lead just over two minutes later after Lupul gathered his own rebound at the side of the net and pumped a shot through Biron's pads for a 2-1 lead.

The Sabres drew even with 3:27 remaining in the contest after Kotalik one- timed a shot from the left circle that caromed off the post and past Giguere's stick side to make it 2-2 and force overtime.
