NHL Game Summary - Los Angeles at Montreal

(Saturday, December 3rd)

Final Score: Montreal 3, Los Angeles 2

Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - Jan Bulis scored shorthanded to break a third- period tie and Pierre Dagenais recorded a pair of goals to lead Montreal to a 3-2 victory over Los Angeles at the Bell Centre.

Mike Ribeiro assisted on both of Dagenais' tallies and Jose Theodore made 28 saves to help the Canadiens put an end to a four-game losing streak.

Eric Belanger and Jeff Cowan both had goals for the Kings, who have dropped a season-worst four in a row. Mathieu Garon stopped 28 shots in the loss.

With the teams deadlocked at 2-2 and Montreal's Mathieu Dandenault in the box for a delay of game penalty, the Habs' Steve Begin stole the puck away from Joe Corvo and broke free down the left wing. Begin then delivered a nifty backhanded feed to Bulis, who beat Garon in close with 4:35 elapsed in the final period.

Theodore made the lead stand with 10 saves over the remainder of the contest.

Dagenais opened the scoring with one minute to go in the first period, taking in a backhanded pass from Ribeiro and firing a shot over Garon's glove and into the upper left corner of the net.

Los Angeles would come out strong to start the second frame, as the Kings put up two goals in the first 3 1/2 minutes of the period to move in front.

The equalizer came just 1:17 into the session. After the Kings' Aaron Miller dumped the puck into the right corner, Belanger skated around the back of the net and threw a shot into the crease that deflected off Ribeiro's skate and by Theodore.

Just over two minutes later, Corvo intercepted Mark Streit's clearing attempt and sent a pass to an open Cowan for a one-timer that gave the Kings a 2-1 lead.

Montreal would draw even when Dagenais, camped alone on the right side of the net on a power play, received a feed from Ribeiro and whacked the puck under Garon's legs at the 7:47 mark of the second period.
