NHL Game Summary - Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay

(Sunday, November 27th)

Final Score: Tampa Bay 4, Pittsburgh 1

Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Fredrik Modin scored two power-play goals to help lead the Tampa Bay Lightning over the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-1, at the St. Pete Times Forum.

John Grahame made 20 saves in the victory for Tampa Bay, which has five wins in its last six games. Rob DiMaio added a goal and an assist, while Brad Richards netted a goal to increase his point streak to 10 games. Vaclav Prospal also chipped in with two assists.

"Grahame was the reason we won the hockey game, because we could have been down two or three goals at the end of the first period," said Tampa Bay head coach John Tortorella.

Maxime Talbot scored the lone goal for Pittsburgh late in the third period as the Penguins have now lost four of their last six games. Jocelyn Thibault made 32 saves in defeat.

The Penguins were without center Mario Lemieux, who was a late scratch because of a stomach virus. They did have star rookie Sidney Crosby in the line-up, who was questionable with a foot injury that he suffered in Friday's 6-3 loss to Florida. His five-game point streak did come to an end.

"We just got to keep going, keep battling and work on our consistency," said Crosby.

Tampa Bay scored three power play goals on nine attempts against the Penguins en route to victory.

With 12:05 remaining in the opening period, Tampa Bay took a 1-0 lead after Richards deflected Nolan Pratt's heavy slap shot from the point past Thibault for his tenth goal of the season.

Pittsburgh had a chance to even things up at 9:23 of the period when Matt Murley was awarded a penalty shot after being hooked down on a breakaway. Murley faked a backhand shot and switched to his forehand, but Grahame stretched out his right pad along the post, keeping the puck out.

Just under five minutes into the second period, the Lightning went up 2-0 after DiMaio re-directed Dan Boyle's blast from the left point past Thibault for the power-play goal.

"The points are nice but the win is better," said DiMaio. "I had a real tough start to this year and I wasn't happy with myself so there was lots of room to move and improve and I'm working on my game every day trying to get it back to where it should be."

Less than two minutes later, Modin netted his 12th goal of the season, giving Tampa Bay a 3-0 edge. With the man advantage, Prospal made a pass from the left corner out to the high slot where Modin one-timed the puck over Thibault's blocker.

Modin scored his second goal of the game at 5:23 of the final stanza. On the power play, Prospal set up behind the net and flipped the puck out front to Modin, who beat Thibault low stick side.

Pittsburgh scored a short-handed goal with a 1:13 left that ended Grahame's bid for a shutout. Talbot was setup in front of the net and tipped home Ric Jackman's shot from the right point.
