NHL Game Summary - Los Angeles at Nashville |
(Thursday, November 24th)
Final Score: Nashville 4, Los Angeles 3
Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Steve Sullivan scored a goal and added an
assist, as the Nashville Predators held on to beat the Los Angeles Kings,
4-3, at Gaylord Entertainment Center.
Marek Zidlicky had three assists and Adam Hall put in the eventual game-winner
for Nashville, which has won six of its last seven games. Goaltender Tomas
Vokoun stopped 35 of the 38 shots he faced.
Derek Armstrong scored a pair of goals to lead a late rally for the Kings, who
had a three-game winning streak snapped. Jason LaBarbera made 29 saves in net.
Scottie Upshall got things started for the Predators just under six minutes
into the first. After intercepting a Kings' pass attempt at center ice, the
right winger skated into the zone and unleashed a quick slapshot from the
point that beat LaBarbera.
Paul Kariya took a long outlet pass from Zidlicky several minutes later and
raced in for a breakaway goal, ripping a shot just under the left cross bar at
the 9:28 mark to make it 2-0.
The Predators would add two more in the second period. Sullivan lit the lamp
5:45 into the frame on a Zidlicky feed, then assisted on a Hall power-play
tally midway through the period to make it 4-0.
The Kings finally ended the shutout early in the third. Jeremy Roenick's
wrap around try was denied by Vokoun but he gathered his own rebound and sent
it across the crease to Armstrong, who put it into the open net.
The game got chippy after that. The Kings' Sean Avery hit Kariya from behind
as he was trying to skate with the puck, prompting Darcy Hordichuk to
retaliate with several punches even as Avery lay helpless on the ground.
Hordichuk got a game misconduct and the Kings went on a five-minute power
play, but could not convert.
"He shouldn't even be in the league. He can't even skate," said Avery of
Armstrong, though, would pull L.A. to within two with less than three minutes
to play on a screened shot from the left circle.
Joe Corvo made it 4-3 with 51 seconds remaining on a slapshot through
traffic from the point, but the Kings were unable to net the equalizer.

in the second...Thursday's test completes a brief two-game road trip for the
