NHL Game Summary - Vancouver at Anaheim

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Sami Salo scored two goals, including the game- winner in the third period, as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, 3-2, at the Pond.

Trevor Linden scored on a penalty shot and Dan Cloutier made 31 saves for the Canucks, who have won three of their last four games.

Andy McDonald and Rob Niedermayer scored for the Mighty Ducks, who tied a franchise record with their eighth straight loss.

Ilja Bryzgalov took over in the Anaheim net after Jean-Sebastien Giguere left with a little over four minutes remaining in the opening period. It is unknown whether he aggravated a hamstring injury.

The Ducks had tied the game 2-2 early in the third period, but Salo gave the Canucks the lead back with his second goal of the game. Markus Naslund got hauled down but was able to get the puck to Salo at the right point. He let fly with a wrist shot and Bryzgalov slowed the puck down, but it trickled between his legs and into the net with 7:48 left in the game.

The Ducks pulled their goaltender with a little over one minute remaining, but were unable to get the equalizer.

The Canucks got the first score of the game on a power-play goal. Daniel Sedin set up behind the net and eventually found brother Henrik at the top of the right circle. He immediately sent a pass to Salo just inside the blue line. His one-timer went through a screen and into the net with 4:55 to play in the first period.

Each team had five power plays in the first period thanks to 15 minor penalties that were called.

Anaheim finally got its power play working on the seventh attempt. Ruslan Salei made a drop pass to McDonald at the right boards. He skated in to the low right circle and flicked a wrist shot that beat Cloutier and went into the upper left corner of the net with 8:42 to play in the second stanza.

Linden gave Vancouver the lead back on a penalty shot after he was hooked coming in on a breakaway. He skated in, went to the backhand and got it over Bryzgalov's left pad at the end of the second period.

The Ducks tied the game just 47 seconds into the third. Petr Sykora got the puck to Niedermayer at the top of the right circle. He skated in and threw a shot at the net. The puck bounced off Vancouver defenseman Bryan Allen in front of the net and went in.

Game Notes

Vancouver will host Chicago on Tuesday...Anaheim will travel to Phoenix for a game on Tuesday...The Ducks are 0-5-3 on their current skid...The two teams combined for 33 penalties in the game.
