NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Anaheim

(Sunday, November 13th)

Final Score: Dallas 3, Anaheim 1

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Marty Turco made 40 saves and Jere Lehtinen tallied his ninth goal of the season to lead the Dallas Stars past the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, 3-1, at Arrowhead Pond.

Philippe Boucher and Bill Guerin also scored a goal each and Sergei Zubov added two assists for the Stars, who have won five of their last six games.

Jonathan Hedstrom scored the Ducks' only goal and Ilya Bryzgalov, who replaced starting netminder Jean-Sebastien Giguere in the second period, stopped 11 of the 12 shots he faced for Anaheim, which has lost five straight games.

Giguere gave up two goals on seven shots before leaving the game with a muscle cramp in his left leg. The Ducks, who outshot Dallas 41-19, host the Stars again on Wednesday.

"I'm feeling better about my game," Turco said. "Seeing a lot of shots helped create a rhythm. I don't need 41 shots. We are finding ways to win games."

Dallas drew first blood with 6:12 left in the first period after Boucher gained the offensive zone, skated into the right circle and beat Giguere glove-side with a wrist shot for a 1-0 lead.

The Stars upped their lead to 2-0 just 50 seconds later while on the power play after Lehtinen deflected the puck past Giguere. Brenden Morrow held the puck in the left corner before finding Lehtinen below the left circle at the side of the net.

Enter Bryzgalov, who gave up the Stars' third goal 6:25 into the second period. Jussi Jokinen took a shot from the right circle that was saved, but the rebound went to Guerin at the side of the net and he pumped it past Bryzgalov for the 3-0 lead.

Anaheim began to chip away at Dallas' lead midway through the third period after Hedstrom got credit for a goal that made it 3-1. Scott Niedermayer skated the puck to center ice before pushing it ahead to Hedstrom at the blue line. Hedstrom got behind the Dallas defense and went right in on net. Turco made the save, but trailing defender Stephane Robidas hit the puck with his right foot and it kicked past Turco for the score.

Anaheim nearly got back within one while on the power play with under two minutes left in the game. Teemu Selanne re-directed the puck off the post and Sergei Fedorov had a scoring chance from down low, but Turco came up huge to keep the Ducks at bay.

"Marty's got to be the backbone, and he was tonight," Dallas head coach Dave Tippett said.
