NHL Game Summary - Los Angeles at Calgary

(Wednesday, March 29th)

Final Score: Calgary 2, Los Angeles 1

Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Miikka Kiprusoff made 25 saves and Jarome Iginla scored the deciding goal while shorthanded, as the Calgary Flames defeated the Los Angeles Kings, 2-1, at Pengrowth Saddledome.

Jamie Lundmark also scored for the Flames, who snapped a modest two-game losing streak while also extending their home winning streak to three games.

The win moved the Flames into a tie with idle Colorado for first place in the Northwest Division with both teams having 88 points. Calgary, though, has played one less game than the Avalanche and the two teams meet on Friday at Calgary.

Craig Conroy netted the lone tally for the Kings, who have lost three of their last four and six of their last eight. Jason LaBarbera made 23 saves in the loss.

Los Angeles' playoff hopes also took a minor hit, as the club sits three points back of the eighth spot in the Western Conference with just nine games left to play.

Iginla's shorthanded goal was big, as it came late in the second period and staked the Flames to a 2-0 edge.

With Stephane Yelle in the penalty box after a goaltender interference call, Daymond Langkow raced into the offensive zone before coming to a halt in the right circle. He then fed the puck to Iginla at the point that the star forward converted into a one-time blast that beat LaBarbera with just 3:37 left in the frame for his 32nd tally of the season.

The Kings made it a 2-1 game with 4:30 left in the third period as Conroy took a feed from Lubomir Visnovsky before carrying into the high slot and beating Kiprusoff for his 20th goal of the season.

Los Angeles pulled LaBarbera with a little over a minute left, but could not net the equalizer.

Lundmark had given Calgary a 1-0 lead at 7:35 in the first with his eighth goal of the season.
