East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - Martin Brodeur made 22 saves to notch
his second shutout of the season and Scott Gomez tallied a goal and an assist
as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-0, at Continental
Zach Parise and Jamie Langenbrunner scored a goal apiece for the Devils, who
have won four in a row for the first time this season. Patrik Elias and Brian
Gionta had two assists each for New Jersey.
"We're not making the stupid mistakes," Langenbrunner said. "We're playing
within ourselves and waiting for opportunities, especially against a team like
this that has as much firepower as they have in Forsberg, Gagne and Knuble.
You have to wait for your opportunities and obviously the power play came up
Antero Niittymaki stopped 13 of the 16 shots he faced for the Flyers, who
failed to get a point for the first time while on their franchise record 11-
game road trip.
"I think we came out pretty hard," Flyers center Peter Forsberg said.
"Brodeur shut us down and they kept us on the outside."
New Jersey got on the scoreboard with 5:13 left in the first period while on
the power play after Parise took a behind-the-back pass from Gionta and one-
timed it past Niittymaki from below the right circle for a 1-0 lead.
The Devils extended that lead to 2-0 with 8:18 left in the second period while
on the man advantage after Langenbrunner beat Niittymaki with a slap shot from
inside the left circle.
New Jersey capped the scoring at the 8:08 of the third period after Gomez beat
Niittymaki with a wrist shot from the slot for a 3-0 lead.
Philly fell to 7-1-1 in the first nine contests of their franchise-record 11-
game road trip...Philadelphia suffered its first loss in its last 15 road
games overall (12-1-2)...The Devils got their first win against Philadelphia
in three tries this season and snapped a five-game losing streak to
Philadelphia...Brodeur's shutout was the 77th of his career...Philadelphia
outshot New Jersey 22-16...The Devils went 2-for-6 on the power play, while
the Flyers finished 0-for-3.
