Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Alex Tanguay had a goal in regulation and netted
the game-winner in the shootout portion to give Colorado a 3-2 victory over
Columbus at the Pepsi Center.
Marek Svatos had a power-play goal in the first period and another in the
shootout for the Avalanche, which matched a season-best streak with their

"Now we've got some momentum," remarked Colorado head coach Joel Quenneville.
"I thought we played well. We found a way to persevere and we got rewarded at
Rick Nash and Sergei Federov both scored for the Blue Jackets, who fell to 0-9
all-time in Denver despite a sparkling performance in goal by Pascal Leclaire.
The netminder finished with 46 saves in defeat.
Columbus' Jaroslav Balastik opened the shootout with a rocket over David
Aebischer's left shoulder, but Svatos beat Leclaire stick-side to even things
Both teams missed on their next two opportunities before Nikolai Zherdev had
the puck roll off his stick on the Jackets' next attempt. Tanguay then skated
in and whipped the puck through Leclaire's legs to end the contest.
"I knew (Leclaire) moved his legs from side to side, so I knew I had to push
him away and go in the five-hole," said Tanguay.
Colorado jumped out to a comfortable early lead with a pair of power-play
tallies late in the first period.
With Columbus' Jody Shelley in the box for slashing, Brisebois launched a shot
from the left side that was saved by Leclaire. Milan Hejduk's rebound attempt
was then blocked in front, but the puck trickled to Tanguay and the star
forward knocked it home for a 1-0 lead with 4:24 left in the opening session.
A minute after Tanguay's goal, the Blue Jackets took another penalty and the
Avs again cashed in with the man advantage. Brett McLean sent a pinpoint pass
across the crease to an awaiting Svatos, who easily pushed the puck past
Leclaire with 1:41 to go in the period.
Fedorov poked in a rebound of a Zherdev shot midway through the second to pull
the Blue Jackets within 2-1, and Leclaire kept it a one-goal game by making 12
saves during the period.
Leclaire continued to be stellar in the third stanza, and Nash blasted a
wrister off a Zherdev feed at the 7:19 mark to tie the game at 2-2.
Neither team could find the net in the five-minute overtime, although both had
chances. Hejduk one-timed a Columbus giveaway wide of the net early on, and
Nash was stoned on a breakaway by Aebischer seconds later.
"He made huge saves at a very critical time," said Quenneville of Aebischer,
who stopped 19 shots in the victory.
McLean also got free in the closing seconds, but was hooked by Duvie Westcott
and was stopped by Leclaire.
