NHL Game Summary - Detroit at Nashville

(Friday, January 6th)

Final Score: Detroit 3, Nashville 1

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Nicklas Lidstrom scored a pair of goals to guide Detroit past the Nashville Predators, 3-1, at Gaylord Entertainment Center.

Jason Williams also lit the lamp while Robert Lang had two assists for the Red Wings, who have won seven of their last eight contests.

Goaltender Manny Legace, playing in just his second game since sitting out more than a month with a knee sprain, recorded 29 saves to pick up back-to- back wins.

"Lidstrom's all right. We'll keep him," Legace said. "We'd be lost without him."

Vernon Fiddler had the lone goal for Nashville, which has dropped five of six. Kimmo Timonen and Paul Kariya assisted on the tally, while netminder Tomas Vokoun turned away 33 shots in the loss.

This was the first meeting between the teams since November 21 in Detroit, when Red Wings defenseman Jiri Fischer suffered a seizure and collapsed on the bench during the first period.

Fiddler scored the only goal of the first period on the power play to put Nashville in front, as his wrister from the point found its way past Legace at the 13:55 mark.

The Red Wings evened the score at 1-1 with 2:44 remaining in the second on Lidstrom's first goal of the night, which also came on the power play.

Detroit then went on top two minutes into the final frame on a tally from Williams. Mikael Samuelsson worked the puck along the right boards before dishing down low to Williams, who moved in front before backhanding a shot past Vokoun.

"Jason was all by himself. A breakdown like that decides the game," Vokoun said.

The Red Wings built a two-goal cushion on a power-play goal with 6:53 left in the contest, as Lidstrom's slap shot from the point made its way through heavy traffic in front and past a screened Vokoun.
