Final Score: Calgary 5, Phoenix 2

Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Stephane Yelle scored the deciding goal and added an assist to help the Calgary Flames cruise past the Phoenix Coyotes, 5-2, at the Saddledome.

Dion Phaneuf and Kristian Huselius also had a goal and a helper while Miikka Kiprusoff came up with 24 saves for the Flames, who have won four of their last five and moved five points ahead of Colorado for first place in the Northwest Division.

Shane Doan registered a goal and an assist and Geoff Sanderson also scored for Phoenix, which is in last place in the Pacific.

Phaneuf opened up the scoring with 2:28 remaining in the first period, ripping a slapshot from just inside the blue line that made it through heavy traffic before slipping past a screened Sauve to put the Flames up 1-0.

Calgary extended its advantage to two goals at the 7:16 mark of the second frame, as Jarome Iginla ripped a one-timer from the top of the left circle for the Flames' second power-play tally of the night.

"We came out and had a good start, and were able to draw some penalties," Iginla said.

The lead was stretched to 3-0 midway through the stanza on a deflection goal by Yelle.

Phoenix got on the board less than two minutes later on a power-play goal by Doan, his 28th of the season, but Shean Donovan lit the lamp with just 11 seconds left in the second to give Calgary a 4-1 lead heading into the final period.

Sanderson pulled the Coyotes to within two at the 7:31 mark of the third on a one-timer from the right circle.

That was as close as they came, however, as Huselius finished a Calgary rush with a one-timer from the slot in the closing minutes to cap the scoring.
