NHL Game Summary - St. Louis at Los Angeles

(Saturday, March 18th)

Final Score: Los Angeles 3, St. Louis 1

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Sean Avery tied the game early in the third period and Michael Cammalleri put Los Angeles ahead less than four minutes later, as the Kings defeated the St. Louis Blues, 3-1, at the Staples Center.

Eric Belanger tallied the other LA goal and Mathieu Garon made 23 saves for the Kings, who snapped a three-game losing streak and are in a tie with Vancouver for the sixth playoff spot in the Western Conference with 79 points. Brent Sopel added a pair of assists in the contest.

"Our penalty killing was good, our guys blocked shots and Mathieu was solid in the net," said Los Angeles head coach Andy Murray. "These are desperate times and we needed something to happen, and in the third period we found a way to do it."

Mike Glumac scored his fourth goal of the season and Patrick Lalime made 33 saves for the Blues, who have lost two in a row and three of their last four games.

The Blues' first shot on goal came after nearly 13 minutes had elapsed in the third period. The Kings outshot St. Louis, 18-3, in the final frame.

After a scoreless opening frame, the Blues tallied the first goal nearly midway through the second period.

Dean McAmmond came up with the puck, after the Kings were looking to put on some offensive pressure, and passed the disc from the right circle to the left circle, where Glumac one-timed the pass glove side into the net for the power- play goal at the 11:36 mark.

Late in the period, Belanger had a chance to tie the game after he picked off the puck and skated in for the breakaway, but Lalime closed the five-hole and stopped the backhanded shot.

One minute into the third period, Los Angeles evened the score on Avery's 14th goal of the season. Sopel fired a shot from just over the blue-line, which Avery stopped in front of the crease and wrapped the puck around a sprawled out Lalime.

The Kings took a 2-1 advantage almost four minutes later as Cammalleri fired a slapshot from just outside the right circle which went off the skate of St. Louis' Kevin Dallman at the 4:50 mark.

Belanger scored with 3:03 remaining. After clearing the puck out of the zone, Avery skated up the right wing and fed a pass to Belanger, who skated between the circles and lifted a shot off Lalime's arm.
