NHL Game Summary - Detroit at Nashville

(Thursday, February 9th)

Final Score: Detroit 3, Nashville 2

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Mathieu Schneider scored the eventual game- winner late in the third period as the Detroit Red Wings rallied from two goals down to upend the Nashville Predators, 3-2, in the second installment of a home-and-home at Gaylord Entertainment Center.

Kris Draper and Robert Lang lit the lamp as well for Detroit, which also defeated Nashville 6-0 Wednesday and has now won five games in a row. Manny Legace stopped 32 saves in net.

"We weathered the storm," said Draper.

Scott Hartnell and Paul Kariya both had goals while Tomas Vokoun turned away 42 shots for the Predators, who have lost three straight.

The game remained tied at 2-2 for nearly a full 20 minutes until Detroit finally went on top with 6:31 to play in regulation. Veteran Steve Yzerman controlled the puck in the zone before dropping a pass back to Schneider. The defenseman then moved in between the circles and snapped a wrister that found room in the left side of the net.

Legace kept the Predators off the board the rest of the way to preserve the win.

Nashville drew first blood 5:35 into the first, as Hartnell finished off a crisp passing sequence by burying Yanic Perreault's cross-ice feed from the left circle into the back of the net.

The Red Wings gained a 5-on-3 advantage midway through the frame but were unable to cash in. The Predators made them pay moments later.

Just seconds before Detroit's power play was set to expire Schneider was called for a high-stick, setting up a man-advantage for Nashville. Legace immediately came under attack and turned away the first couple offerings, but Kariya ultimately punched a rebound putback over the fallen netminder to make it 2-0.

"It's just frustrating that we didn't put them away when we had the chance," Hartnell said.

Detroit fought back with a pair of goals, however, to send the game into the final period knotted at 2-2.

Lang netted his 16th tally of the season 11:44 into the second, and Draper followed with an even-strength goal of his own less than two minutes later to pull the Red Wings even.

Game Notes

Legace was coming in off of back-to-back shutouts. He now has 101 career wins...The Predators are 21-6-1 at home...Detroit is 19-5-3 mark on the road...The Red Wings, who have won their last three trips to the Music City, are 13-7-4 in the past 24 matchups.
