NHL Game Summary - Philadelphia at Buffalo

Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Jochen Hecht's goal midway through the second
period proved to be the game winner as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the
Philadelphia Flyers, 4-2, at HSBC Arena.
Jason Pominville tallied a goal and an assist and Ryan Miller made 21 saves
for Buffalo, which has won four straight contests. Taylor Pyatt and Brian
Campbell also notched goals for the Sabres.
Simon Gagne and Mike Knuble scored the Flyers' goals and Robert Esche stopped
33 shots for Philadelphia, which has lost three of its last four games.
Philadelphia drew first blood 12:32 into the first period after Gagne beat
Miller with a wrister from the slot for a 1-0 lead.
Buffalo tied the game less than three minutes later after Pyatt gathered a
loose puck on the doorstep and swept a backhander past Esche.
The Sabres took their first lead of the game 5:24 into the second period after
Campbell's wrister from the high slot beat Esche stick side for a 2-1
advantage.
Buffalo extended its lead to 3-1 with 7:42 left in the second frame when
Hecht's shot from the right circle caromed into the air and dropped into the
crease where it went off Knuble's right skate and past Esche.
The Flyers drew back within one with 3:20 left in the third period after
Knuble knocked down a clearing attempt by Miller along the right half wall and
put a shot on goal that deflected off of Miller's right pad and in as he
scrambled back into the net to make it 3-2.
Philadelphia pulled Esche with over a minute to go in regulation, but
Buffalo's Pominville scored an empty-netter with 7.1 seconds remaining to seal
the win for the Sabres.
Game Notes
The Sabres have six wins and a tie in their last seven home games against the
Flyers since a 2-1 loss on April 8, 2001...Philadelphia continued to play
without Peter Forsberg, who has missed the last three games with a groin
injury...The Flyers, who fell to 17-6-3 on the road, will host the Rangers on
Saturday...The Flyers were outshot 16-3 in the first period and their first
shot in the third period didn't come until 11:06 into the frame.
