Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Miikka Kiprusoff stopped all 39 shots he faced
to record his league-leading eighth shutout of the season, as Calgary downed
the Dallas Stars, 1-0, at Pengrowth Saddledome.
Daymond Langkow scored the lone goal of the game and Dion Phaneuf picked up
his 24th assist of the season for the Flames, who have won three of their last
four while snapping a six-game losing streak to Dallas that included two
Marty Turco was solid in net, making 23 saves in a tough loss as his offense
could not solve his counterpart.
The defeat brought the Stars' three-game winning streak to a halt.
The Flames lit the lamp for the only time in the contest with 5:10 remaining
in the first. Tony Amonte got the puck back to Phaneuf and the rookie defender
ripped a shot from the left point that Langkow deflected in for his 19th goal
of the season.
Amonte's assist was his 21st of the year.
Dallas' best chance arguably came in the third frame when the Stars saw an
extended 5-on-3 power play. With Kristian Huselius already in the penalty box
for slashing, Jordan Leopold took a double-minor for a high stick at 4:13
However, it was Kiprusoff who stole the show at that point, robbing Dallas
numerous times en route to posting his 15th career shutout.
Overall, Dallas failed to score on seven power-play chances, while Calgary
finished 0-for-4 on the man advantage.
Both teams made deals at the deadline. Calgary acquired center Jamie Lundmark
from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for a fourth-round choice in the 2006
draft. Dallas, meanwhile, acquired defenseman Willie Mitchell and a second-
round pick in the 2007 draft from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for
defenseman Martin Skoula and Shawn Belle...Both Jason Arnott and Sergei Zubov
had five-game point streaks come to an end...Calgary picked up its first win
against Dallas since a 2-1 overtime victory in March of 2003.
