NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at Phoenix

(Monday, February 23rd)

Final Score: Anaheim 1, Phoenix 1

Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 37 shots, helping the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim skate to a 1-1 tie against the Phoenix Coyotes at Glendale Arena.

Jason Krog scored the lone goal for the Ducks, who are just 2-9-2-1 in their last 14 contests.

Brian Boucher stopped 23 shots for Phoenix, which moved to 2-5-2-1 in its last 10 contests. Daymond Langkow added the Coyotes lone tally.

"This point is good for our morale, " Boucher said.

After a scoreless first period the Mighty Ducks took a 1-0 lead on Krog's fifth tally of the season. Chris Kunitz ripped a shot from the right faceoff circle that was not cleanly saved by Boucher. The puck went off the netminder's right side, and Krog crashed the net and swept in the disc 3:34 into the stanza.

However, Phoenix would get the shorthanded equalizer with just under three minutes left in the second period. Mike Comrie ripped a wrister from the right faceoff circle and Langkow crashed the net, but was taken down in the slot. As Langkow was laying on the ice, the puck deflected off his stick and slipped by Giguere stick side, 18:38 into the second.

"Their goal went off his stick as he fell down," Giguere said. "One point is not enough but it is a step in the right direction and better then a loss."

Sergei Fedorov had a golden opportunity to win the game for the Ducks, but his shot from just outside the right faceoff circle hit the outside of the far post late in the third period.

With under 40 seconds left in the game, Phoenix's Radoslav Suchy ripped a blast from high in the slot. Giguere turned aside the shot with a brilliant blocker save, forcing the game into overtime.

Boucher kept the game scoreless in the opening stanza as he stoned Petr Sykora from the doorstep on a flurry of shots.
