St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Chris Pronger had a goal and an assist and
Jamal Mayers scored to snap a third-period tie, as the St. Louis Blues skated
to a 4-2 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes at the Savvis Center.
"Our line was trying just to keep it simple," said Mayers. "The hockey gods
were nice to us today."
Doug Weight and Mark Rycroft also scored for the Blues, who have won back-to-
back games for the first time since mid-December. Chris Osgood made 19 saves
in the victory.
"This is as complete of a game (as) we have played in a long time," said
Shane Doan and Brian Savage each had a goal and an assist for the Coyotes, who
have lost eight of their last 10 games (1-7-1-1). Brian Boucher made 28 saves
in a losing effort.
With the game tied at 2-2 in the third period, Mayers raced to a loose puck in
the corner and fired it toward the crease. The puck hit Boucher's left skate
and deflected into the net with under five minutes remaining.
Rycroft scored into an empty net with 24 seconds left to seal the win.
Pronger scored his 13th goal of the season to give the Blues a 1-0 first-
period lead. Pronger scored from the slot after receiving the end pass on a
three-on-two break with Petr Cajanek and Scott Mellanby at 4:57.
Weight skated uncontested out of the right corner with the Blues on a power
play and beat Boucher with a wrist shot from the circle at 6:36 of the second
period to give St. Louis a 2-0 advantage.
Phoenix cut its deficit in half on Doan's team-leading 21st goal of the season
later in the period. Savage skated over the blue line on the right wing, cut
to the middle and fired a slap shot that hit the post to Osgood's glove side.
Doan was stationed at the side of the net to knock in the rebound.
Savage scored a power-play goal early in the third period to tie the game at
2-2. The pass from Doan in the right corner to the slot was deflected away,
but Savage picked up the puck in the circle and beat Osgood with a wrist shot
through a screen.
Coyotes left wing Ladislav Nagy left the game with a wrist injury after a
collision with Blues forward Keith Tkachuk...St. Louis beat the Coyotes for
the first time this season (1-2-1)...The Blues scored once on four power-play
opportunities, while Phoenix cashed in on 1-of-2 chances with the extra
skater...Phoenix dropped to 1-4-1 in its last six road games.
