NHL Game Summary - Washington at Chicago

(Sunday, February 15th)

Final Score: Washington 4, Chicago 0

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Olaf Kolzig made 38 saves en route to his second shutout of the season and the 33rd of his career to lead Washington over Chicago, 4-0, as a pair of last-place teams took the ice at the United Center.

Peter Bondra, Stephen Peat, Matt Pettinger and Anson Carter each scored for the Capitals, who won for the first time in four games (1-2-1). Despite the victory, Washington is still in the basement of the Southeast Division, three points behind idle Carolina.

Craig Anderson stopped 29 shots for the Blackhawks, who had a three-game win streak snapped. Chicago, with 44 points, still remains in a tie for the bottom spot in the Central Division with idle Columbus.

After a scoreless first period, in which Chicago outshot Washington 9-7, Bondra got the Capitals on the board with his 21st of the season 5:34 into the second. While on the power play, Bondra beat Anderson off a rebound up high.

Then only 1:05 later, Peat beat Anderson five-hole from the slot for the second Capital tally.

Washington increased its edge to 3-0, 2:07 into the third when Pettinger tipped in a loose puck from right outside the crease.

"Pettinger can score," said Washington head coach Glen Hanlon. "It has been 30 games or so without a goal for him, so it's good."

On a 2-0 break, Robert Lang passed the puck to Carter, who capped off the scoring with 1:50 remaining.

Chicago failed to score on six power-play opportunities, while the Capitals were 1-for-6 on the man-advantage.

"We frustrated them on the power play," Kolzig said. "The guys in front of me did a wonderful job."
