Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Maxim Afinogenov scored twice and Ales Kotalik
delivered a career-high three points to lead Buffalo to an 8-3 win over Los
Angeles at HSBC Arena.
Daniel Briere and Kotalik each finished with a goal and two assists for the
Sabres, who scored the final seven goals to earn their second straight win.
Martin Biron made 21 saves to post his sixth win in seven starts.
Jozef Stumpel and Scott Barney both registered a goal and an assist for the
Kings, who suffered their second straight loss. Ian Laperriere also scored,
while Roman Cechmanek took the loss in net as he stopped just 17-of-22 shots
before giving way to Cristobal Huet.
Henrik Tallinder, Chris Drury, Rory Fitzpatrick, Jochen Hecht also scored for
the Sabres. After managing just one shot in the initial 12;10 of the second
period, they responded with three straight goals down the stretch in the
second period to lead 4-3.
Tallinder delivered his fourth goal of the season with 4:01 to go in the
second. He converted on a slap shot from the left circle through traffic.
"You could feel [the game] turning around," Tallinder said.
They forged a 3-3 tie on a tally by Drury with 2:19 to play. He scored on a
slap shot from the right point into an open net. Fitzpatrick posted the go-
ahead score 1:09 later from the bottom of the right circle.
Briere put Buffalo ahead 5-3 just 34 seconds into the third period. On the
power play, he tipped in a shot by Cechmanek, who was then replaced by Huet.
Hecht registered his seventh tally of the season on a breakaway. His backhand
shot got past Huet, who finished with 11 saves, at 8:37 of the third.
Afinogenov scored the next two goals for the Sabres. He beat Huet twice in
1:26 to cap the scoring.
Stumpel's slap shot near the left faceoff circle at 1:34 of the first period
put the Kings ahead 1-0.
Buffalo forced a 1-1 tie on Kotalik's 13th goal of the season with 4:49
remaining in the first on a shot from the left point.
Los Angeles scored twice in the second period to go ahead 3-1.
Early in the second, Barney beat Biron with a backhand shot on the power play.
Alexander Frolov set up the goal at 4:02 on a pass from the left boards.
Laperriere then converted a rebound from the slot 8:02 later.
"We stopped playing," Laperriere said.
Alexei Zhitnik and Miroslav Satan both had two assists for the Sabres, who
improved to 9-2-0-1 on Fridays...The Kings, who suffered their
first regulation loss on the road in seven games (4-1-1-1)...Los Angeles fell
to 1-7-1 in their last nine games in Buffalo.
