NHL Game Summary - Ottawa at Boston

(Tuesday, December 30th)

Final Score: Ottawa 3, Boston 0

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Todd White, Marian Hossa and Antoine Vermette scored goals and Martin Prusek stopped all 24 shots he faced, as the Ottawa Senators blanked the Boston Bruins, 3-0, at the FleetCenter.

Prusek made 11 saves in the first period, nine more in the second and just four in the third en route to his second shutout of the year. Ottawa improved to 5-0-2 in its last seven games.

Andrew Raycroft turned aside 23 shots for Boston, which fell to 1-5-2 in its last eight contests.

White gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead when he scored shorthanded with 5:33 remaining in the first period. Boston's Dan McGillis fed a pass to teammate Sean O'Donnell behind his own net, but the puck caromed off O'Donnell's skate and went out in front to White, who stuffed a backhander through the legs of Raycroft for his sixth tally of the year.

Boston's Brian Rolston appeared to tie the contest with just under two minutes left in the period, but the goal was disallowed after replays showed that Rolston used a kicking motion to re-direct the puck into the net.

The Senators then took command with a pair of goals 34 seconds apart in the second period.

Hossa made it 2-0 at 4:41 of the frame. Bryan Smolinski's shot was stopped by Raycroft, but the Ottawa center picked up his own rebound, skated behind the net and found Hossa in the right corner. Hossa then fired a shot from a tough angle that deflected off the goaltender and into the net for his 16th of the campaign.

Vermette increased the margin to three goals at 5:15, as he took a centering pass from Radek Bonk, deked to the backhand and slid the puck past Raycroft for his fourth goal of the season.
