Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Mats Sundin scored his fifth game-winning goal
of the season with 29 seconds remaining to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 4-2
win over the Montreal Canadiens at Air Canada Centre.
Toronto's Wade Belak scored the tying goal eight and a half minutes into the
third period, as the Maple Leafs improved to 12-0-1-1 in their last 14 games.
Ed Belfour made 19 saves for Toronto, who has picked up a point in 25 out of
its last 28 games.
Jose Theodore made 27 saves for Montreal, which had its three-game unbeaten
Montreal's Pierre Dagenais scored the first tally of the game on a power play,
when he took a pass from Andrei Markov that he buried past Belfour.
Theodore saved all eight shots he faced in the first period to help give the
Canadiens a 1-0 lead at the end of the first 20 minutes.
Darcy Tucker tied the game at 1-1 early in the second period with a power play
goal of his own, when he scored off a deflection from a Ric Jackman shot.
Theodore made 12 saves in the period, while Belfour stopped all seven shots he
Mike Ribeiro scored a little more than a minute into the third period to give
the Canadiens a 2-1 advantage. Bryan McCabe added an empty net goal with one-
second left to round out the scoring.
Montreal was 1-for-2 on the power play, while Toronto was 1-for-5 with the
extra-man advantage...Sundin's five game-winners this season is tied for tops
in the NHL...Darcy Tucker scored his 11th goal of the season in only 33 games,
which surpassed his total of 10 that he notched in 77 games last season...The
Maple Leafs have won eight of their last nine home games.
