Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Andrew Brunette had a goal and two assists as
the Minnesota Wild spoiled the last game at America West Arena, defeating the
Phoenix Coyotes 5-2.
Sergei Zholtok, Matt Johnson, Wes Walz and Alexandre Daigle each added goals
for the Wild, who have won two games in a row. Jim Dowd added two assists and
Zholtok also added a helper in the winning effort.
Minnesota goaltender Dwayne Roloson had 18 saves.
Sean Burke stopped 24 shots for the Coyotes, who will open the brand new
Glendale Arena on December 27 against the Nashville Predators.
Fredrik Sjostrom and Brian Savage each scored for Phoenix, who have been
outshot in its last nine games while posting a 4-2-3 mark during that span.
With the game tied at 2-2 heading into the final period, the Wild took the
lead for good with 8:17 remaining in the stanza when Brunette tucked in a goal
from behind the net. Brunette's goal was the second of four unanswered goals
scored by the Wild to blow the game wide open.
Walz and Daigle each added insurance goals on empty netters late in the third
period to close out the scoring for the Wild.
Phoenix's Sjostrom scored the contest's first goal 4:35 into the opening
stanza. Sjostrom snapped a low wrister that beat Roloson for a 1-0 lead.
Minnesota tied the game up on a power play goal by Zholtok, who blasted a
slap shot past Burke at 11:47 of the second stanza.
Savage regained the lead for Phoenix on his fifth goal of the season just 44
seconds later. Branko Radivojevic fired a long shot from the blue line that
was blocked by Roloson. The puck, however, rebounded off the goalie's right
pad and fluttered back to Savage, who one-timed a high shot for a 2-1 lead.
Johnson deflected a long shot by Dowd at 17:41 for the Minnesota equalizer.
Dowd wound up a shot from the right face off circle and Johnson redirected the
shot off the right post on Burke's left side.
Phoenix has played at America West since relocating from Winnipeg following
the 1995-96 season...The Coyotes, who were previously known as the Jets,
played their first game at America West on October 10, 1996... It was a 4-1
win over the San Jose Sharks...The Wild have scored eight goals in their last
two games...This was the Coyotes 300th game at America West Arena
