(Monday, December 1st)

Final Score: Ottawa 4, Philadelphia 1

Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Martin Havlat scored twice and Martin Prusek made 31 saves to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 4-1 victory over Philadelphia at the Corel Centre.

Anton Volchenkov and Daniel Alfredsson also scored for the Senators, who won for the first time in three games (1-1-0-1).

Keith Primeau scored for the Flyers, who had their unbeaten streak end at 12 games (10-1-2). Robert Esche turned aside 26-of-29 shots in the loss.

After a scoreless opening period, Havlat scored twice in the middle stanza to give Ottawa a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes of action. Vaclav Varada started the play at the blue line for the first goal with a pass to Radek Bonk in the slot. Bonk moved the puck to the right circle to Havlat, who tried a return pass. The puck, however, hit Flyers defenseman Eric Weinrich in front and deflected past Esche to give the Senators a 1-0 lead at 2:28.

The Senators took advantage of a power play to take a two-goal lead. Wade Redden's shot from the point was wide, but Havlat collected the puck off the back boards and fired the puck off Esche and into the net from a sharp angle at 16:33.

Primeau scored shorthanded to cut the Ottawa lead to 2-1 early in the third period. The Flyers captain stole the puck in the defensive zone and skated up ice on the right wing on a 2-on-1 break. He beat Prusek with a blistering wrist shot from the circle at 3:13.

Volchenkov's first goal of the season restored Ottawa's two-goal lead at 12:08 of the third. Volchenkov beat Esche from the left circle after accepting a cross-ice pass from Marian Hossa.

Alfredsson scored into an empty net with 1:16 left for the final margin.
