Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Sheldon Souray notched two goals and Mathieu Garon made 31 saves, as the Montreal Canadiens downed the Washington Capitals, 5-3, at the MCI Center.

Pierre Dagenais added a goal and an assist and Saku Koivu registered two assists for the Canadiens, who won for just the second time in five games (2-2-0-1).

Jan Bulis and Michael Ryder also scored in the victory.

Robert Lang, Alexander Semin and Brendan Witt scored for the Capitals, who lost for the fourth time in five games (1-3-0-1). Olaf Kolzig turned aside just 17-of-22 shots in the loss.

Lang, who was playing in 600th NHL contest, kept his scoring streak alive as he registered a point for the 14th consecutive game. Mike Gartner holds the franchise record with a 17-game point streak, which he accomplished twice during his career in Washington.

Washington's Jaromir Jagr, who has been the subject of trade talks this week, chipped in with an assist to extend his point streak to 10 games. The New York Post reported Wednesday the Capitals are close to dealing the superstar to the Rangers.

The Canadiens opened the scoring on Bulis' goal just 1:12 into the game. He took a pass from Craig Rivet, went in alone on Kolzig and beat the goaltender with a wrister.

Lang evened the score with 3:24 left in the opening period. Jagr made a nice move in the slot and the puck slid over to Lang, who beat Garon with a backhand.

Montreal scored twice more in the closing minutes of the first period to grab a 3-1 edge. Dagenais scored on a one-timer with 2:04 left and Ryder added a power-play goal just over a minute later.

The Habs pushed their advantage to three goals on Souray's first tally at 7:30 of the second period. He beat Kolzig with a slap shot from the right point.

Semin made it a 4-2 game with 5:29 remaining in the second stanza, but Souray added another goal just 1:42 into the final period. Witt completed the scoring at 5:04 of the third.
