NHL Game Summary - Nashville at Colorado

(Monday, November 24th)

Final Score: Nashville 3, Colorado 2

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Kimmo Timonen registered a goal and an assist, as the Nashville Predators used three special-teams goals to defeat the Colorado Avalanche, 3-2, at the Pepsi Center.

Marek Zidlicky and Rem Murray also scored for Nashville, which has captured five of its last seven contests. David Legwand posted a pair of assists in the victory.

Tomas Vokoun, who had started 13 consecutive games before sitting out Saturday's loss to San Jose, posted 34 saves for the Predators.

Milan Hejduk and Joe Sakic both lit the lamp for the Avalanche, who dropped two straight at home for the first time this season after winning three in a row.

Trailing 2-0 in the third period, Colorado finally got on the board at the 2:41 mark. Hejduk received a nifty cross-ice pass from Alex Tanguay and had plenty of time to beat Vokoun with a wrister from the deep slot for his 12th goal of the campaign.

However, a shorthanded goal with 6:15 to play gave the visitors a 3-1 edge. Predators center Greg Johnson was given a hooking minor at 12:33. However, midway through the penalty, Vladimir Orszagh blocked a shot and raced all the way down the ice after the puck. His shot was stopped, but Murray one-timed the rebound into the net.

With about two minutes to play in the third, the Avs pulled netminder Philippe Sauve in favor of a sixth skater. With the 6-on-5 edge, Sakic tipped home a shot from Rob Blake from in front to bring the Avalanche within one.

However, the Predators were able to hold onto their slim lead and time expired.

Sauve allowed three goals on 23 shots.

The Predators took an early lead when Timonen scored his third goal of the season after just 1:03 had been played in the contest. Colorado defenseman Karlis Skrastins was called for hooking and the visitors went right to work with the man advantage. Timonen took a pass from the right corner and fired a wrist shot over the shoulder of Sauve. It was his third goal of the season.

Another penalty called on the Avalanche allowed Nashville to push its lead to two goals. Zidlicky was in front of the net when Timonen's shot was stopped and he punched in the rebound at 5:09 of the second period.
